Insurance Claims from Hurricane Irma Approach $3.9 Billion

Homeowner’s insurance claims following Hurricane Irma have reached $3.85 billion, according to a report from Artemis. More than 600,000 claims have been filed, but only about 14 percent of those claims have been closed, with an average claim size of about $75,000.

That means thousands of Florida homeowners are still in financial limbo as they await their insurance company’s decision on whether their claim will be approved. Unfortunately, many claimants will soon find out that insurance companies are not always willing to step up to the plate and offer a fair payout.

If your homeowner’s insurance claim or property insurance claim was denied or if you think your payout was too low, contact Leader & Leader P.A. to discuss your case. If your insurance carrier takes too long to approve your claim, denies your claim without valid justification, or makes an unreasonable interpretation of your policy, you may have grounds for an insurance bad faith claim.

If you file an insurance bad faith claim and prevail, your insurance company will have to pay for your attorney fees and other costs of doing so. Call 954-523-2020 today to discuss your situation with an insurance claims attorney in Fort Lauderdale.

Speak to an Insurance Lawyer Before You Sign Any Releases from Your Insurance Company

Just because your insurance carrier approves your claim doesn’t mean they will offer you a fair payout. In fact, private insurance adjusters who work for your insurance company may have an indirect financial incentive to undervalue your claim.

This is why it’s so important to contact an attorney before you sign any release.  It may also be a good idea to hire a public adjuster who represents you and is not an advocate of the insurance company.  However, this will vary based on your claim, the issues to be addressed and what public adjuster you hire.  It is never a bad idea to call Leader & Leader, P.A. to discuss your options and needs; this consultation is generally fee and therefore costs you nothing!

Insurance law in Florida can be incredibly complex, and there are many technical rules that govern how much an insurance company must pay a claim. For instance, if enough percentage of your roof sustained damage, your insurance company will have to replace your entire roof rather than repairing only a small section.

If you believe that your insurance company has treated you unfairly, turn to Leader & Leader P.A. Our attorneys have more than nine decades of combined experience practicing law.
