What is the difference between flood damage and water damage?
Well, flood damage is usually attributed to a natural body of water. Think about storm surge or the breaking of a levy, and generally damages caused by that type of flood aren’t covered under homeowner’s insurance policy. Whereas, water damage is usually the result of a sudden and accidental leak. Think of a burst pipe or leaking drain line, generally those are covered, but keep in mind there are certain exclusions in your policy which may apply. Sometimes the insurance company may apply a constant repeated seepage or wear and tear exclusion to deny your claim. It’s important to read the policy and contact the professional if you have any questions or you don’t understand how your coverage is being applied.
