Florida Teenager Shot Toddler in the Ankle
According to WSVN, Police arrested the teenager after he got into a fight with neighbors and randomly started shooting while kids were playing near the scene. The suspect now faces a number of different charges, including one count of attempted second-degree murder. After he fired shots, the 3-year-old victim’s father opened fired on the apartment that the suspect’s family was in; according to police, it was a means of self-defense.
Those inside claimed they had to run for cover, and there are now bullet holes all over the apartment. The apartment owner does not believe the shootings were in self-defense, and claims they were actually a means of retaliation. When the suspect appears in court on December 29th, the judge will decide whether to charge him as a juvenile or an adult.
Police Arrest Dozens in a Local Crime Sweep
According to CBS Local, the sheriff’s office arrested more than 70 people in a crime sweep titled Operation Hat Trick last month. During the sweep, law enforcement officials targeted prostitutes, drug dealers and those with outstanding warrants. Investigators even found a man selling crack cocaine to an officer who was working undercover.
Deputies were able to recover both the money and the crack the man tried to throw away after he realized he was selling to an undercover officer. Investigators believe the arrests they made during the sweep may yield high returns as far as solving other local crimes. Oftentimes, sweeps like this can help them develop leads that will result in other arrests.
Police Arrest Man Connected With a Bar Brawl Turned Shooting
CBS reports on a bar brawl in Fort Lauderdale late last month that turned into a serious shooting. On security footage filmed the night of the incident, a 41-year-old man got into a fight with a 30-year-old man, as well as a second unidentified man. The older man told investigators that he was just trying to make more room for other patrons when he found himself in the middle of the shoving match that quickly escalated.
One of the younger men put him into a headlock while the other punched him. The 30-year-old man then went out to his car, where he grabbed a handgun and waited for the victim to leave the bar. When the victim left, the suspect fired several shots at him, eventually striking him in the lower back.
Responders brought the victim to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery. Police are holding the shooter in a correctional facility, though his accomplice remains at large.
